Narvir Singh ਨਰਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ

(b. 1989, London, UK, Punjabi)

Narvir has an interdisciplinary practice that spans poetry, music, theatre, photography and film. His work engages with transnational migration in the context of fluctuating infrastructures of power.

Narvir debuted as a slam poet at the Greenway Court Theatre in Los Angeles and is a two-time UK National Slam Finalist. His debut solo exhibition, 'From Partition to Southall', was held at the British Film Institute, Southbank in 2017. He has staged an immersive theatre production, 'Snapshots of Punjab', and collaborated on an album, 'It Will Work Out', with his partner Jagdish, who sings, and his brother Deep producing. He is currently working with the National Portrait Gallery.

Narvir [pronounced Nur-veer]

Nar - in Sanskirt it’s a noun, in Persian its an adjective for man/masculine. It’s found in many modern languages including Balinese: ᬦᬭ (nara), Thai: นร (nɔɔ-rá-), Hindi: नर (nar), Marathi: नर (nar), Kannada: ನರ (nara) and Telugu: నరుడు (naruḍu).

Vir (veer):
In Sanskrit, as a noun it means: a man, a brave man, hero, chief
As an adjective, means heroic, brave.
